YUBI: TRANSZILLA / SEEN, HEARD, INVISIBLE
Towering above a desolate city, YUBI storms through the streets like a force of reckoning—impossible to contain and unwilling to be softened. Raised in the quiet contradictions of suburban Indiana, she transforms concrete and chaos into her stage. Her drag doesn’t aim to blend in—it breaks the frame entirely. As a trans woman, she knows what it means to be cast as both a threat and a spectacle: feared, politicized, and yet undeniably desired by the same society that tries to erase her. And if the world is spiraling, YUBI reminds us that maybe a woman of ruin is exactly what it needs.
SERIES DESCRIPTION:
TRANSPLANTS is an exploration of queer and trans drag performers who have uprooted themselves from conservative red-state origins in search of liberation, community, and creative expression. Through vivid portraits and layered storytelling, each image captures the resilience, reinvention, and radical self-possession of queer people who have traded the confines of their pasts for the possibility of becoming something new, something stronger. TRANSPLANTS is not just about geographic migration—it’s about shedding imposed identities, severing ties with inherited shame, and learning to inhabit the space between, where transformation can finally take root.
